Student Health
School nurses empower students to be well; they teach, treat, counsel, and support students to increase classroom seat time and decrease trips to the health office and absences from school. In addition, school nurses:
- Teach students how to manage their own health and wellness
- Monitor immunization status
- Conduct vision and hearing screening
- Coordinate dental screening and treatments
- Refer students for treatment and provide information about community resources
- Participate in 504/IEP meetings and develop individualized health care plans
- Assist with medication management at school
- Support students with special healthcare needs/chronic conditions
- Communicable disease surveillance
